| This German publisher is
unique as they published English language books for
European Continantal Circulation only. The volumes were
not alowed to be introduced into Great Britain or her
Colonies. The six Tarzan titles, they published, were issued in softcover (sewed), in hardcover (in boards) and in hardcover (clothband). Because in those days it was common practice for buyers to take the paperback editions to their own bookbinder to have them bound, these books now come in a huge variety of bindings. The Tauchnitz bindings in general have some reference to Tauchnitz on the outside of the binding. Private bindings refer in general only to author and title. The paperbacks that were not bound, have lasted less well and are therefore even more rare. Almost all titles were reprinted several times. Most paperback copies show the month of issue at the back and are therefore easy to date. (A special thanks goes to Joe Lukes for his information.) |
